The green ancestor.

Since its launch in 1979, the famous three-button green overdrive pedal has been constantly rediscovered by very different musicians, from blues to metal to rock and jazz. But for all that, the Tube Screamer is far from being a perfect design for several reasons, including its unfortunate tendency to cut the bass and boost the mediums in a caricatural way, not to mention its limited reserve of gain. Transatlantic collaboration. The Custom Shop MXR serves as a platform for the famous American brand to extract original designs that are not necessarily intended to be produced in large numbers and in the long term.

For the CSP036 Il Diavolo Overdrive (the devil's overdrive, just that!), MXR called on the talent of Carlo Sorasio, the founder of the Italian amp and effects brand LAA Custom, with the specifications to release the ultimate Tube Screamer, the best possible version of this classic circuit. The choice of position. Sorasio has therefore completely revised the balance of frequencies, keeping a boost of the mediums that is now more discreet and musical, and especially by avoiding that your bass disappears completely!

But the secret weapon of the CSP036 Il Diavolo Overdrive lies in the small three-position switch located between the volume and gain controls. In the Hi position, the crunch comes from LED diodes while in Lo, it comes from silicon diodes. In the center, the diodes are bypassed for a boost that the initial pedal was unable to.

Who would have thought that a three-button overdrive would be likely to produce so many different sounds?
